Boys’ Golf: Van Buren Wins Team Title,  New London’s Phillips Individual Conference Champion:

Van Buren County won the team title while New London’s Clayton Phillips was the individual champion at yesterday’s Super Conference Boys’ Golf Meet at Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course.

Phillips shot a six-over 78 to claim medalist honors while Clayton Bruckman shot an 82 for Van Buren County placing him second.

Rounding out the top-five were Kaleb Allen of West Burlington Notre Dame, Riley Bruckman of Van Buren County and Winfield-Mount Union’s Brady Loyd.

West Burlington Notre Dame placed in the team standings, followed up by New London, Winfield-Mount Union and Mediapolis.

Central Lee and Danville did not have enough individual players to register a team score.

College Softball: Wesleyan Advances with Shutout Win:

The Iowa Wesleyan softball team scored twice in the 3rd inning, once in the 5th and three times in the 6th inning earning a 6-0 shutout, upset victory over fourth-seeded Westminster in the first round of the SLIAC Conference Tournament yesterday.

Former Fort Madison prep Ivy Geerdes got the scoring started in the third with a two RBI single then it was an all New London afternoon.

A graduate of last year’s region final squad, Kara Krieger had her freshman moment clubbing a two run home run, while her old ace Morgan Christner hit not one, but two solo shots.

Christner was once again dynamite in the circle.

The senior allowed just five hits while striking out ten in the win.

Now, the Tigers will take on top-seeded Fontbonne today in the semifinal round.

The game will be played in Fulton, Missouri.

First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. this afternoon.

Boys’ Golf: Mount Pleasant in Conference Tri Today:

Following a huge team win at the Fairfield Invite, the Mount Pleasant boys’ golf team will be back on the course today when they travel to Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course.

There the Panthers will take on Fort Madison and Washington.

Golfing will get underway at four bells this afternoon.

Prep Track: SEC Conference Meet Tonight:

The Mount Pleasant boys’ and girls’ track and field teams will be in Keokuk tonight as they look to claim conference titles in the Southeast Conference meet at Calvert Stadium.

Events will get underway at 4:30 p.m.

Girls’ Soccer: Conference Champion Panthers Host Fort Madison:

Fresh off a 1-nil win over Burlington — which helped claim the Southeast Conference Title, the Mount Pleasant girls’ soccer team is back on their home pitch when they welcome in Fort Madison this afternoon.

Fort Madison enters play tonight with a record of 4-4, led by Holy Trinity volleyball ace Claire Pothitakis who has a team-high 16 goals on 35 shots this year for the Bloodhounds.

Brandy Walker is the team leader in assists with six.

Mount Pleasant’s Andrea Lopreato is making a strong push for the Conference Player of the Year.

Lopreato leads the Panthers with 17 goals on a robust 41 shots.

Emma Pieper has been the best goalkeeper in the conference with 42 saves and a sky-high 86% save percentage.

Mount Pleasant won the first matchup between the clubs 3-2 back on April 19th.

Kick is slated for 4:30 p.m.

Boys’ Soccer: Mount Pleasant Squares off With Elite Fort Madison Club:

After being blanked in back-to-back games, the Mount Pleasant boys’ soccer team will look to pull off an upset tonight when they take on the Bloodhounds of Fort Madison at Baxter Sports Complex.

Fort Madison, one of the state’s top teams, enters play tonight with a record of 10-1.

They’ve scored double digit goals in three of their last five games.

Mitchell Pothitakis has been a one-man wrecking crew for the Bloodhounds, he’s scored 23 goals and has assisted on 22 others.

Sophomore goalkeeper Tate Settles hasn’t been too busy for Fort Madison, he’s only been required to make 19 saves.

Mount Pleasant’s offense is paced by Dillon Malone — he’s scored a four-pack of goals this year.

This afternoon’s game will begin at 5:30 p.m.
