The man accused of shooting a Muscatine police officer has been taken into custody.
Mark Lee Jackson, 59, of Des Moines, was arrested without incident at approximately 7:32 Monday evening at 1116 Oak Street in Muscatine.
The arrest ended a multi-day search involving 16 law-enforcement agencies, K-9 teams and drones. More than 1,000 personnel hours were devoted to searching approximately 120 acres near the area where Jackson was last seen.
The incident began Friday evening when a Muscatine County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop Jackson’s vehicle. Jackson allegedly drove at high speeds through residential neighborhoods before leaving the road, traveling onto a bicycle path, driving through a fence and striking a garage.
Jackson later crashed and fled on foot. During the pursuit, he allegedly fired toward officers, striking a Muscatine police officer in the elbow. The injured officer has been released from the hospital, is recovering at home and is expected to make a full recovery.
The charges against Jackson are accusations. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
