A U.S. Postal Service mail carrier has been arrested following an investigation into the alleged theft of Menards rebates in Wapello County.
The investigation began June 24 after the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint that a Menards rebate had been stolen and later redeemed at the company’s Ottumwa store.
With assistance from Menards Corporation, investigators identified a suspect employed as a mail carrier. Authorities say the investigation uncovered a pattern of alleged thefts dating back to 2024.
Investigators allege Menards rebates mailed to customers were stolen before delivery. Receipts customers mailed to Menards for rebate processing were also allegedly taken and submitted by the mail carrier to obtain rebates.
Jill Ranae Brown was arrested Monday, August 17, and charged with fourth-degree theft.
The Wapello County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Menards Corporation and the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and Brown is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
