Open forum: A time set aside to receive comments from the public regarding city business.  The Mayor and City Council welcome comments from the public on any subject pertaining to City business, including items on this agenda.  You are asked to state your name and address for the record and to limit your remarks to five minutes in order that others may be given the opportunity to speak.  The Order of Business is at the discretion of the Chair.  No action will be taken.

 

  1. Approval of the DMC Sherrif’s report for February 2022.

 

  1. City Attorney Ryan Gerling.
  2. Discussion regarding the State rules regarding annexation.  Action by council on any items that might come from this discussion.
  3. The Danville City Council will go into closed session as allowed by Iowa State Code 21.5(c), “to discuss strategy with counsel in matters that are presently in litigation or where litigation is imminent where its disclosure would be likely to prejudice or disadvantage the position of the governmental body in that litigation.”

The next regular session of the Danville City Council is scheduled for Monday, April 4, 2022, Danville City Hall, 6:00 p.m..

Sondra Ann Dick

Sondra Ann Dick, 82, of Douds passed away at 2:45PM on Thursday March 17, 2022 at the Southeast Iowa Medical Center in West Burlington. Visitation with family present will be from 10 to 11AM Saturday March 26, 2022 at Christ United Methodist Church prior to the service. Funeral services will be on March 26, 2022 at Christ United Methodist Church in Douds with Pastor Phil Campbell and Tim Sprouse officiating.  Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery near Douds immediately following the service.  Memorials to Zion Lutheran Cemetery may be left at the church or mailed to the family at P.O. Box 516, Keosauqua, IA 52565.  Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com

Sondra was born April 5, 1939 in Van Buren County to Cyrus Hugh and Alta Geneva Cooper Greenfield.  She grew up on the family farm near Douds with her five brothers and graduated from Douds High School in 1957 and loved to play basketball and went with her high school team to state.  Sondra spent all her adult life in and around the Douds area. She married Keith E. Smith on February 8, 1958 at the Christ United Methodist Church. He died July 19, 2002.  She then married James Dick on May 30, 2009 in the Zion Bible Church near Douds.  Sondra was a stay-at-home mother during her children’s early years and when they were old enough, she decided to take a job at Barker’s Mercantile as a clerk and stayed there for many years.  She then worked for a while at Fairfield Glove Factory and Barkers in Keosauqua until her retirement when Keith became ill and needed her help at home. Sondra loved to stay busy working outside and was an avid gardener.  She was a loving caring and dedicated wife, mother, grand-mother and friend.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband James of Douds, a son Brian Smith (Beth) of Libertyville, a daughter, Joan Davis (Glen) of Peachtree City, GA, two brothers Dwain Greenfield (Lyn) of Douds and William Greenfield of Davenport, two step-children, Darla Melcher (Allen) of Libertyville and Doug Dick (Rachel) of Douds, six grand-children, Aaron Muntz of Unionville, MO, Keith Smith (Alicia) of Unionville, MO, Corie Smith of Libertyville, Miles Aldrich of Camdenton, MO, Mason Aldrich (Alexandra) of Jacksonville, FL and Parker Davis of Peachtree City, GA, three great-grandchildren, Reagan Smith, Tate Smith and Knight Aldrich, several step grand and great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

In addition to her parents and first husband, Keith, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, James and Michael Greenfield and a sister in infancy, Cynthia Greenfield.

Prep Track: Brumbaugh, Panthers Shine at Pella Invite

Brumbaugh’s winning toss of 44 feet, 10.75 inches was over 10 inches further than West Burlington-Notre Dame’s Elise Olesen.

Finishing second for Mount Pleasant was senior sprinter Kenna Lamm, earning runner-up honors in the 60m hurdles, running 10.08. Lamm was also sixth in the 200m dash, finishing in 27.76.

On the boys’ side of things, Avin Truong continued his great start to the season, earning a win in the long jump, with a leap of 6.37 meters.

Will Davidson finished second in the 60m hurdles, blazing to a time of 8.77.

Sophomore Nate Stroud was second in the high jump, clearing 5-10.

Central recruit Nathan McWilliams was 10th in the 800m run, he completed his two-lap race in 2:22.48.

The Danville boys’ also had a strong performance, earning wins from Ty Carr and AJ Bonnesen.

Carr won the 400m dahs, while Bonnesen claimed gold in the mile.

College Wrestling: Five Hawkeyes Earn All-America Status

Detroit — University of Iowa wrestlers Jacob Warner, Austin DeSanto, Alex Marinelli, Michael Kemerer and Tony Cassioppi finished their respective 2022 NCAA tournaments with All-America honors Saturday at Little Caesars Arena.

Warner was the runner up at 197, falling 3-2 to Penn State’s Max Dean.

DeSanto placed third at 133. Kemerer placed fourth at 174. Marinelli placed fifth at 165 and Cassioppi placed seventh at 285.

That quartet went 5-2 in the medal round to move Iowa into third place in the team race.

Iowa has had at least five All-Americans in nine straight seasons and 14 times in head coach Tom Brands’ 16 years.

The Hawkeyes secured a team trophy (fourth or better) for the 13th time in the last 14 NCAA Championships.

College Wrestling: Iowa State Earns Three Medals at NCAA Champs

Detroit — Three Iowa State wrestling All-Americans won their medal matches Saturday, as the Cyclones closed out the NCAA Championships at Little Caesars Arena.

David Carr (157) finished third, Marcus Coleman (184) finished seventh and Yonger Bastida (197) finished fifth, as Iowa State crowned its most NCAA All-Americans under head coach Kevin Dresser.

Iowa State finished in 17th place as a team with 37 points. Penn State locked up the team title with 131.5 points, while Michigan was second with 95 points.

College Basketball: Iowa State is Sweet, Upsets Wisconsin

Milwaukee — A year after finishing 2-22, Iowa State is dancing into the Sweet 16.

22 points from Gabe Kalscheur propelled the Cyclones to an ugly 54-49 win over third-seeded Wisconsin yesterday in Milwaukee.

Iowa State will take on No. 10 seeded Miami (FL.) on Friday at 9:00 p.m. in the Sweet 16.

It’s Iowa State’s first appearance in the regional semifinals since 2016.

Johnny Davis finished with 17 for Wisconsin, along with nine rebounds and four blocks.

Iowa State improved to 22-12.

Wisconsin closed their season 25-8.

Women’s College Basketball: Iowa Upset, Iowa State to Sweet 16

Creighton 64, Iowa 62 

Lauren Jensen hit a go-ahead three pointer with 15 seconds left in the game, as Creighton upset second-seeded Iowa 64-62 yesterday in the Round of 32.

Jensen, a former Hawkeye, finished with 19 points and seven rebounds to lead the Jays.

Monika Czinano led Iowa with 27 points and six rebounds.

Caitlin Clark finished with 15 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds.

Iowa ends their year 24-8, Creighton is now 22-9.

Iowa State 67, Georgia 44

Lexi Donarski poured in a game-high 20 points as Iowa State steamrolled into the Sweet 16 with a 67-44 win over Georgia.

Four Cyclones scored in a double figures, with Emily Ryan stuffing the stat sheet with 15 points, nine assists and three steals.

All-American Ashley Joens had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Iowa State is now 28-6.

The Clones will take on Creighton this Friday at a time to be determined.
